Clearly, embracing change has always fuelled Bingham’s creative process, but perhaps never more so than on her forthcoming release, Up. Co-produced by Bingham and John Kastner (The Doughboys, Bran Van 3000), Up features an all-star band including drummer Gene Trautmann (Queens of the Stone Age), guitarists Jason Falkner (Jellyfish) and Christopher Thorn (Blind Melon), as well as performances by former Dears members George Donoso (drums, guitar) and Martin Pelland (bass, keyboards).
With Up the result is a record that’s entirely unpretentious, informed as much by Bingham’s trademark melodic and lyrical sensibilities as by her knack for distilling the spirit of an incredibly diverse blend of influences into a tight, immensely hooky set of pop/rock songs that are simultaneously familiar and cutting edge fresh.
